Break Loose Ranch Master Fic Post

Break Loose Ranch is not a work in progress. It is a collection of standalone stories all centering around a fictional dude ranch owned by Jared Padalecki. In this 'verse, it's a few years later than now. Jared never went to Hollywood, and Supernatural tanked in a year without the infamous Padackles chemistry.

Jared's built a life at Break Loose with his best friend, resident dipshit Chad Michael Murray. According to Jared, despite being bi with a strong lean toward boys, his life's more Brady than Brokeback. Maybe that's because Jared himself is a good ol' boy, or maybe there's something charmed about Break Loose Ranch. That's for you to decide. *g*

The Break Loose saga begins when Jared meets Jensen at a Kane concert (but Kane's gone a little differently too, on account of Angel lasting seven years, on the strength of the Angel/Lindsey chemistry *g*) Chad drags him to. But that's not really the beginning. It's just a beginning, and from time to time, pieces may show up that pre-date Jensen.

I've said Break Loose isn't a work in progress, and in a way, that's a lie. I know the entire J2 arc. You can see it too, in riding shotgun to everything that's on my mind. But the thing that's most fun to me about Break Loose are the power dynamics and the friendships, how having a partner affects existing relationships. So, while I'll be writing the J2 arc (you bet your ass I will), I'll also be writing Chris and Dave, Steve, Chad and Eliza. Adrian, Milo, Tom, Mike, Sendhil and Alexis. Count on seeing just about anyone I squee about in my regular journal, provided I can find a good story to tell about them.

The thing about Break Loose is, it's my heart's home. I'm never going to write it "just because." It takes time and love and energy to hear the stories and the voices the way I want them, and while I'm writing to share mine and Jared's place with you, I'm writing it out of love for the place. I guess what I'm saying is, it'll come, I promise, but it's not likely to be fast, not if any of us want it to be good. Hope that'll sit right with y'all. Meantime:

Welcome to Break Loose Ranch. Kick off your boots and stay awhile!

Break Loose stories can be read in the order their posted, even if they're out of order. I write them to stand alone, in case you pick up somewhere in the middle. Only time that won't be true is if I specifically say otherwise. But if you're looking for a chronology of events, here's a rough one:

J2 - First Arc
everybody's got their own definition of just their kind (Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles, Christian Kane, Steve Carlson, Chad Michael Murray) NC17
busting through them gates, 1/2 and busting through them gates, 2/2(Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles, Chad Michael Murray) NC17

J2 - Overview, Jensen POV
riding shotgun to everything that's on my mind (Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles) R

J2 - Interludes and Postludes
ring them bells (Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles) NC17 takes place prior to part 3 of riding shotgun to everything that's on my mind
at the end of the sun on a long hot day (Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles, Christian Kane, Steve Carlson, Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum, Chad Michael Murray) NC17

Chad Michael Murray/Steve Carlson -
right back where we started from - (Chad/OCs, Chad/Steve) NC17, precedes hit the ground running

Boreanaz/Kane - follows at the end of the sun on a long hot day
hit the ground running (Dave Boreanaz/Christian Kane, Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles, Steve Carlson, Chad Michael Murray) R
back story & fill: that triangular circular love thing (Dave Boreanaz/Christian Kane, Christian Kane/Steve Carlson, Jared Padalecki/Jensen Ackles) R

Thanks for wanting this 'verse so much. I can't even tell you how much it means to me to create something that I love that you love too.

May I just say...you've made my month:)

This universe is beautiful, and I love how real it feels - are you planning on writing more do you think, or is this the end?

I only ask because I love it so..:)

And! Wonderful, brilliantly drawn Jensen with his bad history and fragile hold on himself, but strong all the same.

Awww. So glad I could make you happy, darlin. *beams* There'll definitely be more from this verse. Promise.

Thanks very much!

I just... I can't even deal with how much I loved these. I devoured them, staying up way too late last night to finish and then rereading my favorite things this morning as soon as I woke up. I think one of my favorite things is the narrative voice you created for Jared- it works so very well, it's so drenched in Texas and horses in a way that just flows out so naturally and I can't possibly describe it except to say that whatever you did, however you did it, it WORKS and it's GORGEOUS and I want MORE.

Just.. AMAZING. Thank you. :)

*beams* Thank you so very much. This 'verse, like I said, it really my happy place. I love the ranch, the relationships, and each of the boys. So, I'm always pleased when someone else loves it too.

Jared's voice, well, I'd like to take some credit for it, but that boy's been talking to me just like that since the first letter of the first story. Maybe somewhere deep inside I created it, but since then, I've just been channeling it. Sort of. ;)

Thank you again, really. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it!

I just read through all these stories and I absolutely love this world you have made. I love the use of language, the descriptions of place and life on the ranch, all of it. Your Jensen breaks my heart, and then your Jared pieces it right back together again. Completely amazing. Thank you for all of this!

I simply adore everything about this 'verse.

Thank you ever so!

I really love this entire verse! I love the intensity between Jared and Jensen and Jared's posessiveness and determination to make Jensen happy.

Have you considered writing a piece where Jared gets to meet James? I would love to read that! It would be awesome to see Jared put him in his place.. Show him how much better off Jensen is without him.

Thank you very much. I really appreciate your interest in this verse and your engagement with it.

Eventually there will be stories to deal with all of the various threads I've established. But this verse is very slow for me to write. It requires a lot of attention because I never want to do it badly. So, in time, yes. I doubt it will look like anyone imagines though. :)

Thank you again!

I'll check that out!

That would be amazing.

Just re-read all these and fallen in love again. Really feeling the blrj2 love and kinda hoping for some more!

I cannot remember how I got here, but I am glad I did. I thought that your view into these boys' lives was absolutely stunning. And you made Jared a cowboy without making him an stereotypical ass! That means a lot to a girl who was raised in the midst of honest to good cowboys in central Texas.

Watching Jensen's pain and confusion unfold around Jared's honest caring was outstanding. I am also looking forward to seeing more of Chris' evolution, as well.

Thank you for sharing this. I have it saved in my WIP folder just to remind me to come back occasionally to see what has been added.

This was recced to me yesterday and just, WOW, what a story. I love your use of language, how absolutely tangible you make the ranch life and horse work. Jared is such a genuine horse person in the way his approach to horses colours his way of being and approaching Jensen. And your Jensen voice in "riding shotgun" is AMAZING.

Hope you'll write more! :)

I really loved this. :)

This verse was recced recently and I've just spent the last couple of days reading it. I've had a great time, thanks so much. I loved, LOVED, horse-whisperer Jared. Just beautiful, thank you again.

I just discovered this verse and have been pretty much reading it non-stop for the last day or so. I love your characters and the tone of your writing. Any chance you're writing more?
